WE ARE A FAMILY

It's a program of long-distance adoptions of kids, elders, and physically and psychiatric disabled people. We do social work in the slums, as well as field areas of Santiago de Cuba, Habana, and Sancti Spiritus.

In this work, they discover basic needs and worry about giving them what they need. The sponsor contributes 15 euros per month to support them with their food and hygiene or other basic needs.

In May 2021 we increased the fee from 12 to 15 euros and we explain why. In January 2021, the currency circulating in Cuba was unified, and the CUC (or convertible currency) disappeared, keeping the Cuban peso as the only currency with a strong revaluation. This monetary measure has quadrupled, or sometimes even quintupled, the salaries and pensions that Cubans receive.

The prices of supplies, in general, have increased tenfold, and the aid we send to the adopted has been greatly reduced by this sudden rise in prices.

If you want more information, contact us and encourage someone to sponsor in Cuba.

Thank you!

What does adoption help consist of?

Each sponsor contributes an amount of 15 Euros per month to support their adopted child. With this money in Cuba, you buy basic foodstuffs or other essential products that you cannot purchase due his economic conditions.
That is why not only the sponsored person benefits from this help but also the entire family with whom he or she lives.
Additionally, once a year, at Christmas, each sponsored person tells the volunteer who accompanies them what other items they need, apart from food and hygiene products. In this way, other needs are covered: clothing, footwear, sheets, towels, etc.

Can I support with an amount greater than 15 Euros?

If the sponsor wanted to contribute more, it would be distributed in another new adoption. For example, if one wants to contribute 30 Euros, instead of supporting a single adoption case, two adoption cases would be awarded so that the aid is distributed more.

Can I choose between sponsoring a child, an elderly person, or a disabled person?

Yes, there is no problem. In Spain, it is more common to sponsor a child, but we also see the need to help other populations in need such as the elderly and the disabled.

Until when can I sponsor?

The sponsored person is accompanied by a volunteer in their situation, so that they try to get out of it, not creating situations of dependency with the help of the sponsor.
That is why cases are reviewed annually to see if there is an improvement in the situation or if dependency has been created, they are discharged to make way for other people with greater need.
If for any reason the sponsor cannot continue with this help, the Association will cover the help for the sponsored person until another person appears to take charge. They will never stop receiving help because the sponsor can no longer support them.

What information do I receive if I want to adopt?

Once the person formalizes their adoption, the program coordination provides them with a report with personal data and a description of the family situation. Additionally, a photograph of the sponsored child is sent.
There is a commitment on behalf of the adopted person to send a small letter twice a year explaining their new situation.
Annually, they receive a list of those products that have been delivered to them, with the signature of the adult who receives them.

Can I send them letters or a gift?

Although the postal address of the adopted person appears in the report sent to the sponsor, it is recommended that the correspondence be sent through the Program Directorate in Cuba or Spain.
If you would like to send him a gift for his birthday, Christmas, etc., it is recommended that it is a simple gift that he can share with other children, such as school supplies, balloons, simple games, etc. It is recommended not to send cash. These gifts, as well as letters, are sent through travelers who help us transport them.

Can the sponsored person come to Spain?

No. The lack of a legal link between the sponsor and the adopted child makes traveling to foreign countries very difficult. But yes, the godfather can meet him in person if he travels to Cuba and thus visits the adopted person, his family, and the environment where he lives.
